“The only way to end this
chaos is to put forward a clear vision of what we want.”
concludes author Kamila Hyat in a Pakistani English language
newspaper. When the vision itself is distorted, when the prime-mover
enemy is misidentified, wittingly or unwittingly, through ignorance
or as uncle toms and auntie thomasses of empire, and when the public
mind and its stewards refuse to understand manufactured terror, the
mayhem in Pakistan will continue.
Manufactured and Self-inflicted
terror underlies the entire specious narrative appearing in The
News, February 13, 2014, “The mainstreaming of
Deobandi militancy in Pakistan”, but remains unexamined in the
article by writer Kamila Hyat. This is only by way of an example, as
all English language dailies of Pakistan, without exception, carry
variations on this same theme of rising “Islamic militancy”
and its uncontrollable “radical insurgency” by non-state
actors. They carry on the narrative in cahoots with the state of how
best to deal with this deadly weed as if it was something organic and
most natural to the soil of Pakistan which can merely be eradicated
by the judicious sprinkling of “Roundup”
(a weed killer).
It is as if there is no other
reality past the puppetshow of these wild dogs eating human flesh.
That they have no owners, feeders, and manipulators. Which is why
this narrative, and its copious brethren from the lauded pens of
analysts, commentators, civilian politicians and military
spokespersons, are promoted in the presses.
The core narrative of the
antediluvian “militant Islam”
also called “radical Islam” forged in the Western
think-tanks, in all its variations including the “Talibanization
of Pakistan”, the “loose nukes”, the “Terror
Central”, and in its latest incarnation: "Deobandi
militancy", all manufacture consent for empire's principal
agenda of continually justifying its perpetual global war on terror.
As Zbigniew Brzezinski explained it in his book The Grand Chessboard:
“That exercise requires a high degree of doctrinal
motivation, intellectual commitment, and patriotic gratification.”
Those participating in building,
and aiding and abetting in that narrative, everywhere, on the
internet, in print, on television, and in the academe, are either
crooks and mercenaries, or fools and ignorant dupes. The excuse “I
didn't know” was both anticipated, and forcefully rebutted, at
Nuremberg when Justice Robert Jackson clove that pretext of ignorance
asunder with these momentous words: “The plans of Adolf
Hitler for aggression were just as secret as Mein Kampf, of which
over six million copies were published in Germany.” If
these modern writers who get so much space in the mainstream presses
claim ignorance, what can be expected from the poor confused masses
who are subjected to these presses 24x7?
What is manufactured terror and
how is it used for political purposes on the grand chessboard?
Disgusted at the obvious deceit,
the lying by omission, to keep the people of Pakistan perpetually
chasing red herrings.
